Battle Abbey

Battle Abbey is in the headwaters of Butters Creek in the Battle Range of the Southern Selkirk’s. It lies south of Roger’s Pass and the Selkirk Lodge.

The Hut:

Battle Abbey hut is a 20-minute helicopter flight west of Golden and is located at 7200 feet (2200 m) at the toe of Omoo Glacier. A windmill and a solar panel generate the hut’s electricity and a wood stove provides heat. There is running water and hot showers, as well as indoor toilets that can be used during the night. This well-appointed hut is uniquely designed and houses much history as it was used frequently by some of the first explorers in the late seventies.

Skiing:

The skiing is mostly above tree line on glaciers, however there is also good tree skiing. The terrain is quite complex with a mixture of mellow to quite steep slopes. Runs are generally 1000 to 1600 ft (300m to 500m) in length.
